I've been asked a few times recently whether or not I take commissions and I've taken the time to just publicly say that I dont do them, and a couple of motivational reasons why I don't take commissions. Please remember that these only apply to me and that I honeslty dont mind other people taking commissions, there are just my personal reasons.
Most prominent reason that I dont take commissions is that I dont want drawings to feel like actual work. I do a full-time study in a university and I have a part-time job to fund it, partially at least. If I would start to ask money for my drawings. It would add quite a lot of pressure to finish the commishes. I know there's also a certain pressure to taking requests, but I feel I can be a bit more leniant with them (not sure if I spelled that right). Also right now I draw to relieve stress from said activities. It helps me relax.
Also not sure what I would price my own art at, not even to mention the administrative stuff that comes along with it. I can look at others what they offer for what prices, but it's hard to translate that to my stuff. And besides, there are artists that actually have to live of their art earnings so your funds be'd better off with them. Or buy a nice sandwich once in a while, treat yourself once in a while (that's what I do at least)
And to finish off requests are practice for me. Some requests ask for things I'd never draw myself and it woud make me think abit harder than draw animals/pokemon standing upright with human shapes. I wouldn't even think about letting people pay for stuff like that. I feel like the experience I gain with these requests is enough to keep me happy.
So I hope I've cleared things up a bit about my opinions on me taking commissions. Again, I'm not against commissions, I just dont like doing them
